So you’ve purchased or found a dog and now it’s time to decide how to feed it. Is it better to use canned dog food or dry dog food? This question certainly needs to take into consideration personal preference. There are, however, a number of great arguments for buying canned dog food.
- Ease of use – canned dog food comes in much smaller containers, allowing for ease of use. Even children can manage to feed the dog with ease. Each package of canned dog food contains anywhere from one to three servings, creating the perfect amount to feed the dog without a mess.
- Help your back! Many dry dog food packages are enormous – creating a real difficulty for the owner. You have to lug the package to the check-out line, drag it to your car, haul it into the house and then figure out where to store it and how to keep it fresh. Canned dog food comes in much more manageable sizes, ensuring that it is easy to carry and simple to use.
- Freshness guaranteed – Since each can of canned dog food provides 1 to 3 servings, you’ll never have to worry about the food getting stale. Nor will you find bugs in the food, or other problems with the food you’ve stored. Canned dog food is convenient to use and always stays fresh, since it comes in manageable, small portions.
- Try it out – If you’re trying out an organic dog food or a new diet dog food, you don’t want to commit to large quantities. Canned dog food is the perfect answer when you want to try a new type of food – but aren’t sure that your animal will like it. Buy a few cans and test it out – without committing to the bulk that is inherent with dry dog food.
Enjoy these benefits, and many others, to canned dog food. You’ll love the convenience!

While many of us are careful about what we put into our own mouths, we don’t always consider what we put into our dog’s mouth. And yet, we love our animals and want to do what’s best for them. What is best for them is to give them natural dog food that will keep them healthy, active and feeling great. But, what is natural dog food?
Many dog foods are made with chemicals and preservatives that are not naturally healthy for your animal. In addition, many dogs have allergies – just like humans have. They might have a low tolerance for wheat products, for dairy, or for other items. Natural dog foods ensure that every meal that you give to your animal is a well-balanced and nutritious one. It’s important to be in communication with your veterinarian to know exactly which foods are best for your dog and to make the selection between dry dog food and canned dog food. The important thing – and the most important message – is to use healthy dog food that provides all of the nutrients, vitamins and minerals that your dog needs.
Some animals may need vitamin supplements as well. Find out from your vet if this is necessary for your pet. Natural dog food tends to provide the majority of the necessary nutrients, but it’s important to know your specific animal and what he needs. In addition, keep in mind that puppy dog food is different than adult dog food and that puppies need this special food for their active and growing bodies. It’s still important to feed puppies natural dog food – and there are many puppy natural dog food products available on the market today.
Treat your dog right so that it can give you years of love and attention!

Most people who have a pet love it very much. The animal is really more a member of the family than it is a pet. You want your family members to eat healthy, nutritious food and your dog, therefore, should be no different. Feeding your dog organic dog food ensures that you are doing everything that you can for the health of your animal. Organic dog food is fortified with more vitamins and minerals. It’s natural dog food that doesn’t have added bulk or hidden ingredients that can be harmful – or at least not helpful – to your pet.
One great place to find out more about organic dog food is through your vet. Your veterinarian can certainly recommend the best organic dog food that will compliment your specific dog’s needs. Don’t be surprised if this natural dog food costs a little more than the regular dog food. Organic and natural items are always more expensive – but you’ll see the difference in your dog’s coat, in his energy and in his teeth. And that will make all the difference!

One of the best ways to ensure a dog’s health is to choose the correct dog food and to feed it the appropriate amount according to size, breed and activity level. Healthy diets, in addition to daily exercise, are the two main ingredients for a happy, healthy dog. When choosing a dog food always use the age appropriate formula that’s offered on the packaging. Obviously a puppy and a 10 year old dog don’t require the same amount of food. So, when is diet dog food necessary? Dogs, especially smaller breeds, have a tendency to become over weight if too much snacking occurs between meal times. Diet dog food can help maintain good, healthy body weight for older or less active dogs. Similarly some dog breeds can not digest a regular dog food meal. Diet dog food often contains fewer preservatives and artificial ingredients as well as leaner cuts of meat and more quality starches. Diet dog food is a great choice when it appears the pet dog has packed on a few winter pounds or if it just needs some healthier options. The quality of food you feed your dog can greatly influence his appearance and his health. Behavioral problems such as hyper activity, listlessness, short attention span and ability to learn can also be affected by your dog’s diet. Keep your dog healthy and happy with diet dog food.

The recent scare involving tainted pet food from China got me thinking: how far will I go to guard the welfare of my pet?
It’s hardly an idle question. Although I do not regard my dog as a full-fledged member of the family, many other pet owners do, and one can hardly fault them. But no Food and Drug Administration exists for pets. As far as the pet food manufacturers and importers are concerned, pet food remains little more than a quality control issue - but if the same unfortunate defect ever occurred in human food, the media would cast it as a public health issue.
