When is Diet Dog Food Necessary for Your Dog?

One of the best ways to ensure a dog’s health is to choose the correct dog food and to feed it the appropriate amount according to size, breed and activity level. Healthy diets, in addition to daily exercise, are the two main ingredients for a happy, healthy dog. When choosing a dog food always use the age appropriate formula that’s offered on the packaging.  Obviously a puppy and a 10 year old dog don’t require the same amount of food.  So, when is diet dog food necessary? Dogs, especially smaller breeds, have a tendency to become over weight if too much snacking occurs between meal times. Diet dog food can help maintain good, healthy body weight for older or less active dogs. Similarly some dog breeds can not digest a regular dog food meal. Diet dog food often contains fewer preservatives and artificial ingredients as well as leaner cuts of meat and more quality starches.  Diet dog food is a great choice when it appears the pet dog has packed on a few winter pounds or if it just needs some healthier options. The quality of food you feed your dog can greatly influence his appearance and his health. Behavioral problems such as hyper activity, listlessness, short attention span and ability to learn can also be affected by your dog’s diet. Keep your dog healthy and happy with diet dog food.
